A unique, powerful component of the Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Social Literacy Program is that it explicitly provides powerful words that are thoughts we find in our brain to help us make the best choices for ourselves and the other people in our lives. Guiding G.R.E.E.N. Thoughts are integrated throughout the program's lessons and multisensory activities. We learn to survey the scene to see who else is on our Home, Classroom, Friendship or Work Teams and consider our Common Team Goals. We then can read the printed Guided G.R.E.E.N. Thoughts to use "in the moment", reminding us to choose our best words and actions to make positive connection with others.
âThe Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterAction Program offers tangible Guiding G.R.E.E.N. Thoughts that can be held in our hand or kept on our desk, in our pocket or elsewhere. The program provides 36 universally-useful, printed, brain-shaped positive affirmation cards that guide G.R.E.E.N. behavior: thoughtful behavior that demonstrates being Grateful, Respectful, Empathetic, Easygoing and Navigating. There are also brain-shaped sticky pads that allow for writing, remembering and using personally relevant guiding thoughts to assist with positive behavior transformations!
I have developed the Guiding G.R.E.E.N. Thoughts visual strategy to help foster positive social interaction. I have found it to be a powerful cognitive-behavioral tool to have my own students and clients Think First to make their best choices "in the moment" when interacting with others on their Teams. It has also helped me to Think First to make my own best action choices. It is one of numerous Wise Action Tools that make the Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Program effective in guiding individuals to be active, thoughtful participants in their own social-emotional growth. I am eager to continue hearing of all of the progress that can be made as people learn to think about using Guiding G.R.E.E.N. Thoughts to make better choices in their social interaction. Please enjoy this two-part video about Guiding G.R.E.E.N. Thoughts from the Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Instagram page. Thoughtfully yours, Herb Hein, MMSc, CCC-SLP
