Maryellen Rooney Moreau is well known by many school-based speech-language pathologists for having developed very useful methodology and materials that help students break down narratives into their component parts so they could be understood. With Maryellen’s approaches such as the Story Grammar Marker®, students also effectively learn the language involved in summarizing these narratives. They also learn to develop critical thinking, using tools such as the Critical Thinking Triangle® to gain more awareness about how people are feeling, what they are thinking and what they are planning. In her recent blog, called Maryellen’s Musings, she shared how her own methodologies related to two articles and a program that she found in her research about trauma-informed programs and trauma-sensitive approaches. I was honored to find that my Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Social Literacy Program was the program she found to be useful as a trauma-informed program and a trauma-sensitive approach. Herb, Joanne and Janis, the G.R.E.E.N. Team of Hein SLP Inc., all took the opportunity to introduce the Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Social Literacy Program to speech-language pathologists (SLPs) from all over the country who visited our booth at the Annual Convention in Orlando for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Herb also presented a well-attended seminar called Imagine Making the Best Behavior Choices: Teaching Language, Analysis, and Self-Monitoring Skills for Thoughtful Interactions (#1887). He presented the evidence for the different approaches that are integral to the Growing G.R.E.E.N InterActions Program and then explained these approaches for guiding individuals to be more thoughtful in their interactions. Get the handout to this seminar through the link below.
Herb will be at FITS Clinic to share strategies he has developed as part of his Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Social Literacy Program, getting individuals getting individuals to develop the understanding and skill to guide their own thoughts and actions "in the moment", engage in self-control, and analyze social situations to make the best choices for themselves and their Home, Friendship, and Classroom Teams.
Through his work with students with ASD, emotional challenges and social language deficits, Herb Hein, of Hein Speech-Language Pathology, Inc, has found that introducing the Team concept and Club Xcite provides quality, innovative educational services for schools and families in San Diego County seeking personalized academic, social, emotional and behavioral solutions. Club Xcite loves our newly published social skills curriculum! They will be integrating the key concepts, worksheets and lessons from the Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions Social Literacy Program to use with all students in their Mindful Adventures Summer Camp. This specialized camp provides opportunities to learn and apply new social and emotional skills in fun and engaging outings with experienced social and executive functioning coaches. Read more…
After decades at our old office, we now are able to celebrate having enjoyed one year in our magnificent new one! Much gratitude to all our clients! We also thank all of our colleagues and friends who made our first Open House a great event. A lively crowd braved the rainy weather to join us for an evening of tasty food and champagne, great music by the folk duo Jeff & Herb and warm friendship. We were also very excited to announce our freshest new idea, the Growing G.R.E.E.N. Interactions Social Literacy Program. This groundbreaking program with its Interactive Toolbox has already brought profound improvements to clients in our private practice as well as the students in private school classrooms where it was initially developed. It has proven to be effective in getting the participants to act G.R.E.E.N.: Grateful, Respectful, Empathetic, Easygoing and Navigating. We are now working hard to make it available to therapists, educators, counselors, home schooling parents and others. Learn more at our Guiding G.R.E.E.N. Interactions page and ... listen to some of the original music we've created as part of the program. Again, thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us!
"New Beginnings", a new Herb Hein Music video, is ready to inspire:
I am so thrilled and appreciative to be releasing this beautiful music video made by my son, Adam Hein. Although this was filmed in spring and the video is filled with Adam's awesome time-lapse photography of nature unfolding, the message in the song is appropriate year-round, whether we are in November or March. New Beginnings from my album released last year, is a song I wrote back in 1992 with my musical partner at the time, Greg Hengesbaugh. It was written to inspire our children to never stop taking steps toward living their dreams. 25 years later, I continue to be living my own dreams helping others as a speech-language pathologist and inspiring people as a singer-songwriter. Joanne, my professional and life partner, is living her dreams giving her best to her clients and also making beautiful jewelry. Our dreams as parents are fulfilled, with our children living theirs. Our daughter, Natalie, is an architect and singer-songwriter in LA, and our son, Adam is making commercials and music videos in Hollywood as a First Assistant Director, while also growing all kinds of plants with his wife, Courtney. The stop action photography of unfolding nature is also a dream skill of his that all viewers get to appreciate. It is certainly a fulfilled dream to have Adam direct, shoot and edit this modern music video of a song I wrote and sang to inspire him and his sister 25 years ago when they were children. Click on the green title here to connect to the YouTube video: New Beginnings! Click on the title of the album, Optimism Returns, to hear and purchase the other 16 songs.
